Meet Ms. DownerHello! My name is Gabriela Downer and I am so excited to be joining the Robert Down team as a first grade teacher! I have been teaching for four years with Salinas City Elementary School District. During my time at SCESD, I was afforded the opportunity to serve on a curriculum writing team which focused on creating project-based learning units where students were able to think critically and problem solve. I recently completed my Masters in Curriculum and Development and am extremely passionate about early literacy and phonics. I can't wait to get to know all of the wonderful families and students here at Robert Down and I look forward to having a wonderful 2017-2018 school year!

Donor's Choose |
I have created a Donor's Choose Page for our classroom. On this page, donors can help our class get six more iPads. I use iPads for math instruction utilizing an application called Near-pod, and this application helps the students stay engaged, manipulate objects, and gain valuable 21st century skills. To donate to the page, click this link, and be sure to share the link on social media platforms as well!

Toolbox Focus |
Our school uses the Toolbox curriculum to help teach students valuable social skills they can use in the classroom and at home. Our classroom is working on the second tool, the quiet safe place tool. Remind your child that they can find a quiet safe place to check-in and be mindful. You can find a short video on the quiet safe place tool here. Discuss with your child different places and ways he/she can use the empathy tool at home!
